Our Approach

"You can't punish the autism out of the child."
At Milestone Mentoring, we firmly believe that every young person has the potential to thrive with the appropriate guidance and support. Therefore, we collaborate closely with the young person and their surrounding network – including family, school, and community – to nurture their growth and development.

Our Approach is Based on the Following Principles

01

Child-Centred Focus

We put the child at the centre of all we do.

02

Inclusive Practice

We recognise and celebrate each child and family member as individuals.

03

Holistic Understanding

We work to understand who a child really is, their unique life experiences and what their physical, mental, emotional and social needs are.

04

Trauma-Informed Care

We work with compassion and sensitivity, respecting that many children have experienced trauma in their lives and this may manifest itself in different ways.

05

Solution-Focused  Support

We support children and their families to identify their strengths and use these to build towards their goals.

06

Practical Skill Development

We teach and practice practical skills and techniques that can be used every day to build resilience and healthy lifestyles.

07

Empowerment and Self-Discovery

We enable children to understand themselves better and to own their own future.

08

Collaborative Partnerships: Strengthening Support for Children and Families

We collaborate closely with children, families, schools, and other partners to make a bigger difference together. By using our partners' strengths and resources, we build strong relationships that benefit children and families.

How We Work

All our work begins by establishing a positive working relationship with the young people, their families, and the professionals already supporting the young person. Through the establishment of a positive relationship, we can begin to challenge previous unhelpful ways of thinking, acting, and responding to their environment.

Through discussion and experiences, we begin to develop the ability of the young people to make good choices for themselves and those around them.

We strongly believe in positive reinforcement of good choices.

Ultimately, the young people we work with will be in situations where there won't be people around who can interpret the world for them or help those around them understand their needs.

At this point, that young person has to be able to make good choices for themselves. Our expert teams work with children and their families to build trusted relationships where challenges can be explored and foundations for a positive future can be laid.

Safeguarding

Ensuring Well-being and Protection

All staff at Milestone Mentoring are committed to Safeguarding and promoting the well-being of the young people we work with, both within the activities we facilitate and in their wider lives.

It is expected that everyone associated with Milestone Mentoring shares this commitment. We foster an open environment where individuals feel comfortable raising concerns. Everyone understands that all concerns will be listened to and, if necessary, escalated to other agencies.

Our recruitment process for new staff reflects our dedication to safeguarding, with all new staff undergoing an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

Additionally, new staff are expected to provide at least two references, which are thoroughly checked and authenticated.

Furthermore, all staff members receive regular training on Safeguarding practices to ensure their knowledge and skills remain current.
